Bell Street got its name from a Bell Field, which was 5 ½ acres at the time.
Bell Street has at times been a busy road. More recently it has been home to a number of shops and pubs, as well as a thriving flea market. At one time there was a Ragged School for children who could not afford to go elsewhere. It is believed that 160 children were said to have attended at one point.
Beneath the streets of Bell Street passes the Metropolitan Line, running between Paddington and Farringdon.
